Unhappy prozac not working?

I wonder if anyone has any suggestions. I had a couple of bouts with depression in my late teens and early twenties. When I was about 21 I was also diagnosed with OCD. I was on anafranil but then switched to prozac due to bad side effects. Prozac has helped me so much with my OCD symptoms even though I still do a lot of checking and counting of things. I can deal with the compulsive part of it a lot easier than I can the obsessive part of it. Lately, however, I've been feeling very depressed. (I'm 33 now). I have some additional stress in my life right now but I haven't fallen back into a depression since I started with medication. Does anyone know if additional stress can cause this to happen? Also, has anyone else experienced this and if so, what did you do? I've encountered blue moments before while on medication but I'm really starting to feel like it is getting past that. (Crying all the time, lack of appetite, unable to sleep.) Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Wow, difficult to know what to say. I'm on prozac too and it has helped tremendously with my OCD, just wonderully. And I guess in the beginning it made me almost feel high, but I think that's because it was so wonderful to be free of all the OCD stuff after such a long time of suffering... hard to say sometimes if a depression is a reaction to something going on in your life or if it is endogenous (caused by brain chemistry). Yes, stress can certainly trigger depression! And maybe the depression fighting part of the prozac gets weaker with time (I have heard of peple having SSRIs "poop out" on them). Even when the OCD fighting part is still working. I don't know.

Ummmm.... (would you believe it I am writing to you from a computer in a cafe while a poetry reading is going on, see i can do all these things again...) What was i going to say... it is also possible that the first "high" f the prozac wears off and normal things affect you more normally again?

Just some thoghts... from a fellow prozac user...

Kathrin

Wink

Kathrin....Thanks so much for your input.

Prozac has also worked wonders for me. I can completely relate to the "high" you were referring to. I remember being able to listen to an entire song on the radio for the first time without having "bad thoughts" racing through my brain. I promised myself then that I would never take my health (mental or otherwise) for granted again.

I think I'm going to try to wait out this depression and see if it will just ease up on its own. I've never experienced this before so I'm hoping that it will pass. I really don't want to start messing around with other medications when this one has worked so well!

Thanks!
