Smile Helping With Intrusive Thoughts

I know I've said this before to some people, but I'll write it all down again. It might not help, but it's worth a shot.

1. Thought-Stopping
When an intrusive thought takes place, imediantely imagine a big stop-sign with the word STOP! on it.

2. Rubber-Band Method
Wear a rubber-band on your wrist. When an intrusive thought occurs, snap the rubber band.

You could also try a combination of these two. Anything that might help you out!

Please keep in mind that these strategies are still compulsions. Having experienced moderate to severe OCD symptoms, I agree that snapping a rubber band may help alleviate the urge to ritualize about powerful obsessions or intrusive thoughts. But in the end, snapping a rubber band or thinking about other things while intrusive thoughts present themselves is still a compulsion, since it is an attempt to compensate for OCD symptoms. In my opinion, someone with OCD should do their very best not to obsess or ritualize, and seek self-treatment options or professional help.
