Mainly I'm trying to find other people who suffer from the same thing. I know it's genetic because my grandfather, mother, sister and I all suffer from the same thing. We've always called them "tail aches". Because the mild ones are just that. It's as if the sphincter muscle spasms causing severe pain. It feels like the muscle is tearing itself apart. They come on very suddenly with little to no warning. It will last anywhere from 10-25 minutes. It's very overwhelming and usually results in laying curled in the fetal position. The only means of relief that we've found are taking Advil and literally holding a hot wash clothe against the rectal opening or if you're lucky, getting in a hot bath. As quick as it comes on, it goes away. But for the next two days it remains soar and passing anything can be very painful.

The very severe attacks are much worse. I had the pleasure of having my first one this morning. While getting ready for work I suddenly felt very light-headed and nauseas. After standing over the toilet expecting the throw up I felt very faint and weak. After sitting in the floor for a minute the abdominal pain began. It started in the lower left side, just inside the hip. It feels like very severe cramps from diarrhea. The pain slowly built up greater and greater. I sat on the toilet expecting to have diarrhea but nothing passed. The pain became so great I could hardly walk. I managed my way to the sofa where the pain spread from my stomach to the sphincter. I began sweating, panting and had trouble staying conscious. I literally stumbled my way to my roommate's bed to get her up. Again I tried sitting on the toilet but still nothing passed. By the time we arrived at the emergency room most of the pain was gone but I was white as a ghost. My blood pressure was 90/50 and heart rate was 64. I've never fainted in my life and this was as close as I've ever come.

After a pelvic exam, blood work and urine test they said everything was fine. The doctor said I just suffered from a sudden drop in blood pressure from abdominal pain. Yes that's true but I want to know why I had the pain to begin with. This wasn't ordinary period cramps or diarrhea. This is something completely different. I've explained this to several doctors and they all look at me like I'm nuts.

Anyone out there have any clue? Or recognize this pattern?
