| | Removal of hardware after patella realignment surgery
Is there anyone out there who would know absolutely if it is a common practice by doctors to leave a washer (as in part of a screw assembly) in a person's leg when they remove the screw.
I recently underwent two separate surgeries, 6 weeks apart, first to remove the screw used in a patella realignment, the second to remove the washer which was part of the screw assembly.
The screw removal was simple, conducted under local anesthetic in an operating room. The washer removal, also done under local anesthetic in an operating room, was horrifying.
I am eager to know if other persons have had similar experiences, or if the washer is generally removed at the same time.
