Question Lung exercices

Would anyone know of any lung exercises to help build up ones lungs--after quitting smoking for 30+ years?
Thanks in advance

Dr. Andrew Weil's book Eight Weeks To Optimal Health has some good basic breathing excersizes breifly outlined in a chapter.

Check with your hospitals respiratory therapy department for suggestions. Also what is called an incentive spirometer might help. These are used after surgery to help you use your lungs and you blow into the tube to try to get the ball from one side of the chamber to the other. Again this might be available from the resp. therapy department.

The pulmonologist actually recommended me to meditate and do yoga, since there is a strong focus on breathing..... and posture.

I just quit smoking on 9/6/02 after smoking 2+ packs a day for 30 years. I was also just diagnosed with emphysema. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/t_down.gif The doctor recommended walking more than anything else to help increase my breathing capacity, so maybe it would help you too. Good luck!
