The past few weeks I'd been feeling a little under the weather off and on. Last sunday I woke up with a horrible sore throat and went on a medication. I have a horrible stomach so I'm really very limited to what I can take for the ear infection-sore throat deal. That didn't work at all and just made me sicker. Friday I went again to my doctor and she put me on another medication that is easy on the tummy and said if I'm not better by monday to get tested for mono. She found an ear infection and swollen glands. Honestly, my glands are so swollen I feel like someone's choking me. Anyway it's monday and the medicine is not working at all, my ears still kill me along with my throat. The mono test I had this morning showed nothing was wrong. The story of my life. I was hoping I had it because then I would have a reason for feeling so awful and a reason for why both medicines aren't working. What else could this be? I have 4 more pills to go, if I'm not better I have to go back to the doc again, but I don't know what she'll do.

I had Mono when I was 36,There were no meds.for It then(80's).All I wanted to do was sleep, every time I sat down!Lymph nodes were swollen also.It took 4 months to get over It,& get back to my old self........Hang In there.....
I don't have mono, that's the thing. I wish I could have some sort of name to attach to whatever I have because I feel really awful. I have the signs of mono, but no mono. They just think it's a bad virus or what not. Everytime I'm sick no one can find out whats wrong, and the one time they did find something wrong they can't fix it. It's just so frustrating to be sick and have someone tell you there's nothing wrong.

Some people are just plain susseptable to viruses. There is no pill you can take to make them go away. I have had cold and flu-like sypmtoms last for weeks, leave for a few days only to come back and start over again.
Best advise is to drink lots of fluids, get rest, take multivitamins and try not to worry. Worry will always make it worse!
I must be, I had one just about a month and a half ago. I need to start an "Ear infection of the month club", I get them so often! It's just I've never had such severely swollen glands b4.

You may need a couple of tests to rule out mono. My niece tested negative for mono twice and it took a third round of tests to show her positive for mono. ALso with the chronic ear infections be sure it is totally cleared up each time and make sure you wear ear plugs when you shower so no water gets in your ears. I would also recommend seeing an ENT for your recurring ear infections. When you are on antibiotics be sure to follow the directions to maximize the effectiveness and decrease the side effect of nausea. If it says to take on an empty stomach or with food then be sure to do this. If your doc can't seem to get to the bottom of this when you finish this round of antibitotics you may want to ask for a referral to a specialist.
She said at the start she wasn't totaly convinced I had mono, but I was 100% sure I had it. But I mean, my medical history is so weird. Honestly, if you look at my side effects of my stomach drugs they are under the "less than 1%" category. lol my doctor says I keep her on her toes. It's odd, my throat is a tad better but my ears are still hurting. I'm not sure if I'm getting better or getting used to being sick. I'm not sure if nausea is the real issue, I have GERD and a horrible non-working stomach so anything will irritate it. I have two more pills left, so after that I'll have to see.

broadway, ask your doctor for a referral to an ear, nose and throat specialist. You could need tubes in your ears. I had 14 ear infections in one year! All caused a sore throat. Since the tubes I haven't had another one and that was 10 yrs ago!
