Question Swollen Eyelids

For the past few days, my left eyelid has been quite swollen, and the right just a little. (You know what happens when you cry at night, then the next morning.. well it's that). I have absoluetly no idea what's causing this, especially what it's lasted so long and doesn't seem to be improving. I used to be on medication that caused dry eyes, but I don't see how that could be the reason, since I'm not using it now. Anyone have any thoughts?

You don't have any health problems that would cause this do you (i.e. thyroid)? My left eyelid was swollen about a month ago and the nurse at the opthamologist's (sp?)office said to first put hot packs on the eyelid 3X/day and use a mild baby wash once a day. She told me that sometimes the glands on the eyelid get plugged. The hot packs helped alot.

What about a sty? I know that most often those appear to be external protuberances, but sometimes they can occur on the underside of the eyelid and as a response the entire lid can redden and swell. But usually with this, there's corneal irritation and pain as well.

Is it literally puffy and swollen? Or is it drooping?

Have you moved into a new place? Have you bought new sheets? Have you been using a new laundry soap? Allergies don't always consist of runny noses and sneezing. You could have an enviromental allergy eye swelling is a main symtom to your bodies reaction to an allergy. It could be a sty, but I think stys noramlly are in one eye at a time. I have never seen anyone with stys in both eyes, but Im not a doctor either. Could it be possible that you were bit in the night by a spider or bug? You said you woke up and it was this way. Does it hurt and is it tender? Do you see any little red marks or anything to asume it could be a bit? If the problem doesn't clear up within a day or two get into the doctor just incase. If it is a sty I believe they may beable to do somehing for you.
Hope you find out what is causing it.
Best wishes,
HuLa
