Medically, HGH is used when kids need serious intervention to help them grow. Non-medically, some people are using it as a fountain-of-youth and/or a quick way to bulk up their muscle mass.
Overall, HGH strikes me as very similar to steroids in terms of the promises and potential for both medical help and abuse.
Check the MedLinePlus site for current medical and drug information on HGH. BTW - most so-called HGH is not human, but bovine [cow].
