Post Edema of feet/ankles

During my last Dr appt (April 3,2003) I was dianoised with Bronchitis . I'm on Xanax .05 mg for panic/anxiety , Lopressor 50mg 1/2 twice a day and the antibotic.

My feet are swollen..edema .. i know from reading Bronchitis , this is one of the "symtoms." He didn' hear any congestion in lungs but saw the bacterial infection via blood test..

I was wandering how long it takes for all symtoms to disappear once antibotics are finished . I still have 4 days of pills to go. I take'em 3xs a day.

I'm tired of having balloon feet. He also Put me on a low sodium diet and Told me To Decrease my fluid intake - this makes no sense..

i thought the idea is to rid body of excessive fluid..

curious....

The low sodium diet is to help decrease your body from retaining water as well as is the fluid restrictions. Since you are still retaining water and the lopressor isn't helping you need to go back to the doc and get this checked out. I am not familiar with regular bronchitis causing a person to retain fluid especially since yours was diagnosed as a bacteria infection. In chronic bronchitis this can happen but not sure why the doc feels this is your cause. Make an appointment to see the doc again and get this checked out. In the meantime be sure to watch your sodium intake (read the labels on containers), elevate your feet as much as possible and when possible elevate them to a level above the heart. Avoid having your feet hanging down or standing on your feet for long periods of time and avoid crossing your legs. Since you doc has ordered you to watch you fluid intake follow those orders also. Also you would be wise to invest in a pair of support stockings and put these on before you get out of bed in the morning until the doc gets this under control.

Can lopressor be culprit ? I started taking it in Oct when I was in hospital - i had, had a sever panic attack and an attack of tietz syndrome at the same time that caused me to feel like i was having a heart attack..tietz is chest wall tendon inflamation ,and its a second long pain - and runs down arms . The Caradiologist stuck me on the lopressor, for heart paplations and my own dr kept me on it for the same reason. As all the tests they ran -shows my heart is just fine and so are my lungs and other organs ~L~

I'm on Xanax now which keeps me out of ER .. I was given a Cortisone shot in feb - best month I had - no tietz syndrome attacks - no pain whatsoever.

The edema started up bout january but it wasn't real bad and I walk as often as I can for weight loss, to keep healthy heart healthy and it would stay down or go away shortly after my monthly. This last month I hadn't gotten to walk as much as i was helping a friend and it seemed to be staying around more, then I got sick and haven't done nothing but sit .. sleep..sit..yes i sit often for long hrs at computer.

But w/warm weather back, I'll be back to walking .

am also working to breaking the smoking habit.

Hi- One of the COMMON side effects of Lopressor is indeed peripheral edema, so I would definitely talk to your doctor about this medication.
Also, prolonged sitting (which you are doing!) can cause foot, ankle and leg edema in totally healthy individuals. I've never heard of simple bacterial bronchitis causing edema, where did you read that? In your research I'm wondering if you read the word "pulmonary" edema! That's different than "peripheral" which is what your complaint is. Did you ever have edema BEFORE you started Lopressor ...forgive me if you've answered this, but I'm a little confused as to what happened when.
