Post Wisdom teeth removal... a few questions.

I am afraid I will be getting my wisdom teeth removed soon, and I am unsure whether the BC pill will affect this.
I will have mine taken out the same way my sister did, which was in a hospital under a general aneasethetic.
Does this mean I will have to stop taking the pill for a certain amount of time before the surgery? If so, about how long? I will ask the dentist at my next visit, but if it is a long time (several months) I would need to know now.
I know for a Laparocopy you need to stop taking them for 4 weeks before and after the surgery. Hopefully it isn't the same as I take the pill to help pains.

Also, only one of my teeth has emerged through the gums, and only slightly. It is on my bottom jaw. I saw the dentist in February '03 and he told me that as soon as I feel any pressure on my teeth to go back straight away (I am on July 9). I have had a lot of pressure and my teeth are now very close together and I don't want them any closer or they will start to go crooked. These are my top teeth and they are not even close to coming through the gums. So does this mean they will cut the gum open to remove the teeth? If so, do they then have to put stiches in? Would they use dissolvable stiches or would I need to get them removed? How long before I can eat proper foods?

And another question: after the surgery how well do you feel (ignoring the pain)? I don't know whether I could get it done during term and still be ok to attend lectures, etc. Would it be best to try and get them removed during a mid-term break?

Thankyou for any answers.

OH! I am sorry to hear about your horrible experience.
Hopefully I don't have to go through all that.
I am only 19, but my sister had to have hers removed when she was 16. I think that is fairly early.
Were you put completely to sleep?
How long before you were able to eat?
I can remember my sister had to use mouthwash after each meal until the stiches were gone.
I have had sore, aching jaws for the past couple of weeks, and also it feels like I have an ear infection a lot of the time.
Now I'm nervous!

Thanks for sharing your experience.

When I had mine taken out I was put under. I had also heard many horrible things about getting it done. you will have to take great care of the stiches after you get it done. I have heard you can have the wounds "lasered" shut. Just like they do when you get your tonsils out now. I did have pain for a while. But the pain was mainly from just one of the spots where a tooth was. I guess it was deep in there. I did get a lot of headaches for mabey 5 days after it was done. But I also think it was not as bad as people say. The good part is it is not a major operation. The worse part is the pain after it is over. But that pain is worth it If the teeth stay and cause you problems. You might have to have major denist work done many times. I suggest that you plan on aloting mabey a week so you can just make sure. I am almost sure you will be ok and in the modern days they will make it easier. But if you are uncomfortable with this I suggest you make sure you have a week clear. So if there are problems or headaches or what have you. you can just take some pain killers and take a long nap.

I DIDN'T MEAN TO SCARE YOU. MOST PEOPLE SAY IT'S A BREEZE....AND SINCE YOU'RE SO YOUNG, YOU PROBABLY WON'T ANY PROBLEMS. I WAS PUT TO SLEEP, TOTALLY....AND LOOKING BACK ON IT, I REMEMBER GOING BACK TO WORK ONLY A FEW DAYS LATER. I SHOULD HAVE TAKEN A WEEK OFF AND RESTED. BUT YOU KNOW HOW US OLD PEOPLE ARE....YOU'LL BE FINE....AND YOU'LL BEGLAD YO HAD IT DONE....
