I've had this for as long as I can remember. My legs are splotchy and if I stand for long they turn purple and splotchy. It's worse below my knees. They don't tan like my upper body. When I lay down to sleep on my back, after about 10 minutes I get a 'buzzing/numbing' sensation and have to sleep on my side. I've been told that there is nothing wrong and to try taking a baby aspirin each day. (didn't work) I'm only 34, I'm 5'8" and weigh 128. I just don't understand and I want to be able to wear shorts. Help???
i have a similar problem...let me explain, and then you can draw your own conclusion. i noticed it for the first time when i was in the shower. as i was standing, my legs were purple with orange spots. now, when i stand my knees and feet turn purple, eventually the rest of my legs become discolored. mine has to do with low blood volume. i have POTS(postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) caused by mercury poisoning. but there are many other reasons for discoloration like that. circulation being the key. but my doc. even said something about a valve in your veins can cause that if it's not functioning properly.

Thank you for the info. I don't really have any other symptoms except the 'buzzing' when I lay on my back. My sister and son have the same problem with the blotchy legs, however. It's embarrasing more than anything but I worry that it's something that is going to cause problems as I get older. I'll do more online research. That's what got me here. :-)
I have the same problem, except for the tingling. It's so embarrasing sometimes. I have had my regular doctor as well as my dermatologist tell me that there is nothing wrong with me, it's just how i am. But that doesn't change the fact that it still LOOKs like there is something wrong. I haven't been able to figure anything out though, but if i do, i'll let you know.
Hello, I know it's been a long time since anyone has posted on this topic but I just found it. I too have the same problem as you, and I've seen 3 doctors and they have no answer for me. This started after I had a child and worsened over the years. I'm now 35. I know it's not a medical cure but it is a visual cure. I use Dermablend Leg and Body Cover in the color of neutral. I can"t begin to tell you how much this helps. I can now wear shorts, bathing suit, and skirts. It's water resistant and it dosen't smudge on to your clothing. I hope this helps. Let me know. Good luck.
Sounds like it could be livedo reticularis. I have that real bad on my legs and I also get it on my stomach and arms. It can be a symptom of a few things, or it can be nothing. Some people just have it.
