I am getting very desperate and would so greatly appreciate any help from anyone concerning this condition. I spent 2 weeks at Mayo Clinic getting the following tests which ALL came back normal. CT w/contrast, MRI, bone scan, EMG, xrays, bloodwork. This is my problem. I have a bulge on my right hip that is directly over the hip point. I have had 6 different Rx's for anti-inflammatory and 4 cortisone shots. The muscles here are very sore and I can't lay on that side. It's not bursitis. It's not a tumor. The only test left more me to take is an arthrogram. But I am so upset everytime someone tells me the results are "normal" that I can't bring myself to make the appt. Can someone out there please help me? Have you had a problem like this? Thank you for listening to me ramble. I'm sorry, it's just I've had this for 5 months now and it's all getting the best of me.

Wow!

Not familiar with your problem, but sounds like you've already eliminated the serious possibilities.

You may have a muscle "knot" over your hip causing the bulge & pain. If so, perhaps you might consider consulting with a certified massage therapist to see if he or she could break down the knot with a deep massage program.

Sorry, that's all I can think of.

Thank you for the idea. I think you might have a point there. For some reason my pain has been decreasing over the last 2 days. My only problem is at night. But I think it has at least stopped swelling. I really do appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. Thanks much!

This is a long-shot, but it could be something to speak to your doctors about.

For months I had increased pain and soreness of my hip. It got to the point that my leg would give out and I would lose my balance. Ihad an MRI, that demonstrated possible AVN..Avascular Necrosis. I had to resort to using a cane at first, now for four months, I have used a walker.

After seven months of pain medication, that did not work, I was referred to a specialist, who diagnosed me with AVN for real.

AVN is a degeneration of the Femoral Head (hip joint). I am scheduled for surgery August 25th to replace my femoral head with metal on metal process.

I encourage you to seek help from a rehabilitation , orthopedic specialist, and have another MRI taken along with regular bilateral hip x-rays.

I have just gone through something similar, though mine stemmed from a car accident. All the test came back normal, till the last one. My orthopedic ordered a bone scan, turns out that I have a slight case of bursitis now but the biggie, I now have tendonitis in my hip. Cortisone shots, heat for pain and ice packs for the swelling are what I am getting now. And, it is actually starting to work. I wish you luck.
