Post Lip swelling on one side, very noticable, please help!!!

I woke up this morning with a funny feeling in my lip, so I looked in the mirror and half my lower lip has swollen quite larger than the other half. I'm thirteen, haven't been kissing anyone, but I have shared lipgloss in the last couple days, does that have anything to do with it? Anyways, I've never have coldsores and I don't know what they look like, so maybe thats it...any ideas of what it is? Or better, how to stop it QUICK? I have somewhere to go tonight and I dont want to look like a freak.

well i dont think its got anything to do with chapstick. but my brother used to get things like that. he worked at a fast food place and he used to come home all the time with all these weird sweelings on his body. on his arms, on his lower lip, his legs. we went to the doctor and they didnt know but they finally figured it out to be hives. he ended up going to get an allergy test at a specialist. turns out he's allergic to iced tea. he's never been allergic, it just one day happened. it's very possible that maybe you've developed a hive, or have had an allergic reaction to something. you should see your doctor, or they will only come and go and eventually get worse if its not taken care of!
best wishes!

My sister used to get this when she was a teenager. It was something called angioedema, an allergic reaction. Her lip would tingle and maybe itch, then it would start to swell. It also would happen on her foot. She still has a tendency toward hives when she gets exposed to certain allergins. She just took Benadryl for it, which of course made her sleepy, so it was no fun going through any of this.

You need to figure out what set off the allergic reaction. Sometimes it can just be stress, too.

Yep, I agree with the other two posters. Shrimp does it to me. I can eat it but if it touches the skin on my lips they itch and swell. There's a weird medical explanation for this, although I can't remember what it is. It has something to do with mango sap I think...
