hello,
i was wondering if anyone out there can help me. i have recently had a CBC and some other blood work done to rule out just about everything. all the blood work has come back perfectly normal, not even a smidge high or low, white blood cell, red, platletes, belly-ruben, everything. so, off of that, is it safe to say that i have no underlying illness? i know this sounds utterly stupid, but i developed a rare infection in my colon after my son was born and i have a fear that something is really wrong with me. they ran just about every blood work kind of test in the hospital as well, and not even the infectious disease people were concerned that it would come back or that it was a sign of something more serious. i am awaiting test results from some not so nice bowel exams as a post-op follow up. i was just wondering if i should have a heads up. so my question is, will blood work detect cancer? leukiemia? i know it sounds so trite, but i am scared.

It sounds like you have a really big fear of illness, but it also sounds like you're healthy, because you've had lots of tests and they've been fine. If you let this fear get out of control, you are going to spend years obsessed with your health and unable to enjoy that you ARE healthy. I think it might help you a lot to find a really great psychologist that you feel comfortable talking to about this.

There's no need to worry so much without reason to. You know? Let yourself enjoy your life. Search for a great counselor and deal with this before it becomes a habit that's really hard to break.

If you search for an anxiety/phobia message board you can talk to others who are trying to conquer a fear of health problems. It's pretty common, but it's really not a good use of our energy. We have lives to live.

thank you for your reply, and i do agree with you about the anxiety. i am actually on medication and i am looking for a counselor. we do have lives to live, and i am constantly reminded that i need to be strong for my son, and trust me, even though he is 5 months old, he has no idea that i am paranoid. my husband is a great support as well, so you are right, i should have nothing to worry about, and that is what i am working on. thank you again.
