Is it white, kind of like a cottage cheese curd? If yes, it could be a tonsilolith -- commonly called a tonsil stone. Take a look at the tonsil stones thread on page 2 of Open Boards. You'll find a lot of people who have experiences with them and have invented ways to remove the stones without causing their tonsils to bleed. Most of us thought it was pretty freaky, too, when we first discovered these things in our tonsils!
