One of my toes is dark purple! - Open to All Other Health Topics Message Board

Ok, the nail on my right middle toe is dark purple. This after I had worn shoes that were too small. The weird thing is I don't feel any pain at all now. I had started to experience bad pain the one time I was walking in these shoes, but I was already out and didn't have anything else to wear. I know the toes were being squeezed, but didn't think anything like this would happen. And now one of my toes is purple! What to do/is this serious? Thanks!

Sounds to me like it's probably just bruised. But if it goes numb or becomes worse-looking (as most actual bruises clear up with time) then I'd see a doctor to find out what's up. It's possible you damaged some nerves and if the bruising continues or you feel tingling and numbness, it's very possible you could lose the toe if you don't have it checked out.

As I always say, it's better to be safe than sorry.
