Question about Cut - Open to All Other Health Topics Message Board

I'm not sure if I am even in the right area, but I have a question that I am hoping will have a simple answer. While cutting some vegetables, I sliced off a small portion of my thumb next to the thumb nail. It is a rather large piece of skin and flesh, about 1/2 inch long and perhaps 1/4 inch deep. There is nothing that can be sewn back on or repaired. My big problem is that it will not stop bleeding. It has been several hours and the bleeding just continues. Is there any product on the market that I can use to somehow "block" the blood flow until this thing starts to heal? Would a liquid bandage help possibly? Being Easter Sunday I have been unable to find an open store in our area. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Applying direct pressure and keeping your hand above your head may help. I'd suggest going through the phone book and looking for any pharmacy that might be open in your area, they may be able to better direct you to a product that will help with this. If you simply can't stop it...I'd say call an ER and check to see what they would advise. Hope all turns out well, good luck!
