Question Bilateral Pica Syndrome

Hi all,

I was wondering has anybody on these boards been diagnosed with Bilateral Pica Syndrome or perhaps know of someone who has it.

I am trying to find out as much information as possible and what are the best treatments etc .

Hoping someone out there can help

Thanks again

Jeanette

Re: Bilateral Pica Syndrome

Jeanette,
I don't have any personal experience with PICA Syndrome (Posterior Inferior Cerebellar Artery Syndrome)....but I've heard that it has the alternative name of Wallenberg's Syndrome.

I've read that the prognosis is generally quite good with full or near full recovery within 6 months.

Here is a link about it on the website of the National Inst. of Neurological Disorders and Stroke:

www.ninds.nih.gov/health_and_medical/disorders/wallenbergs.htm

(Permission given by moderators to post .gov website)

You'll also find on that page in the left column, info on patient studies, research literature, and press releases.

You'll have to copy and paste the address into your address bar since the Healthboards no longer parse links to be automatically "clickable".

Hope some of this helps.

Re: Bilateral Pica Syndrome

Jeanette,
P.S. Other synonyms for PICA (that might help in your search for more info) are:

Cerebellar peduncle syndrome,
Dorsolateral medullary syndrome,
Lateral bulbar syndrome,
Lateral medullary syndrome,
Lateral medullary infarction syndrome,
Posteroinferior cerebellar artery syndrome.
