So 12 years ago how did you find out you had a low count?
Had you been on any antibiotics for a long period of time?
Had you had any shots immunizations with interferon or antibiotic pennicillan shot?
Had you experimented with pills of any sort?even bcp?
Is anyone a mechanic in your family?
Do you live near a refinery?
Did you work at a gas station?
Was there a paint production plant near by or plastic company manufactury?
Are you sure did you get a second opinion?
Did you check out anemia had you been checked for this?
You can have the city test your water maybe they can send someone out but I would hire a private lab to test the water and If it tests positive for benzene then get a lawyer.
Looking into the cause may cause you more harm via stress = low immunity, so take it easy.
