I've heard that using Q-Tips is not good for your ears, possibly because it can push water down further into your ear canals.... is this true? or maybe there's some other reason using Q-Tips is not good for you?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I have dried my ear canals out with a q-tip most every day for over 40 years, and never had an ear problem of any sort. I think common sense applies - don't cram anything, including q-tips, way into your ear! But drying the part that feels annoyingly damp after a shower or shampoo has never hurt me. This might be different for someone who naturally produces a lot of wax - in their case perhaps it can compress or force wax built up in there farther into your ear. But I believe drying the outer part of the ears won't hurt you.
Yeah I heard that was true.....my friends Aunty is a doctor and she had to get all her wax out with some special ear cleaning tool and she had heaps of black wax that builded up through her using cotton tips and pushing wax back into the ear...the doc said just not to use it too often...
You really shouldn't use qtips - it says it right on the box. I used them for years and ended up damaging the skin lining my ear canal. I now get swimmers ear constantly and it is extremely painful.
I was told the best thing to use to clean yours ears is your elbow, that was by a eye ears and throat specialist. I have tried and tried to use them but i always ended up using a q-tip. I also have not had any real problems by doing so either.
I have had trouble from using Q-Tips in my ears.In being the operative word. You can push wax back into your ear and it is possible to get so much fluid build-up in your ears to cause blood blisters.(VERY PAINFUL)My doctor says never put anything in the part of your ear where the hole is
Not even your elbow

Q-tips themselves aren't really bad unless you are craming them down your ear canal. You can clean around the opening with them but you really shouldn't go much farther because they could cause the earwax to compact against the ear drum causing serious problems.

My childrens pediatrician told me not to use q-tilps. He told me not to bother with it, he would get it out at checkups. I clean the outer part of my ears, and my kids ears-but nothing any deeper.
I've heard you're not suppose to use q-tips too, but I always have. And I know many times I probably go too far in but I've never had any problems. I've seen ears that aren't cleaned...they're pretty disgusting. So after seeing that, I'll take my chances with a q-tip.
