Question Bilirubin In The Urine??

I recently went to the emergency room with what I thought was a kidney infection I had let go too far. However, the urinalysis showed no infection; nor did the culture. She said that I had bilirubin in my urine which is not normal and that she wanted to do a liver function test. When they called me back, they said that the liver function was normal with the exception of high bilirubin levels. She said I need to follow up with my doctor to determine the possibility of gallstones. I am a 20 yr old female, who is otherwise healthy, except for many unexplained bruises. (I can count over 40 on my lower legs, which is the worst area) I don't know if these two things are related, but I am desperately searching for answers. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Re: Bilirubin In The Urine??

Yes, bruises can be related to high bilirubin.

There can be some blood or other disorder which causes red cells to fall apart abnormaly and thus causes high level of bilirubin (which comes from haemoglobin from broken red cells) to appear in the blood or urine. The same disorder could cause bruises.

Other causes are liver and gallbladder disease.
