Smile To All The Ladies

Hello
I am a 42 year old female and I would like to say...Please ladies go every year for your pap smear! So many of us....put it off and put it off...I was one of these that kept putting it off....I honestly did not go for my pap for years! (Yes this was very ignorant on my part) I finally reached a point where I said....I'm ok... ....Well I went to see my Doc last month.....and she was quite blunt about the smear and the importance of it.....So I went ahead and got the smear done! I lived in fear for two weeks! I just knew I was going to have some thing wrong! God blessed me with a normal pap smear! I feel like a new person now...Will I ever go another year with out my pap...You can't bet the answer is no! I just wanted to share my story with you all...and please...If your due for a pap ..make an appt NOW.........I was so stupid.....Please don't let this happen to you....yours might not be normal.....Thank God mine was ok........((((HUGS)))) bbear

Re: To All The Ladies

Good advice.

I am 31, and have not had one since my son was born. (6 years ago)

I am scheduled July 7th.

I am not all that nervous, but a little......just a little.

Re: To All The Ladies

Very good advice. I am almost 32 years old. In the last few years, I had gotten lazy about it---dreading it--before I knew it, 4 years had passed (and I was always good about going in every year)---so I went in to have it done. All was fine, which I "knew" it would be. This time, I went in after 2 years--there is so much cancer out there today, that I just felt this urge to get it done for some reason, (I wasnt having any abnormal problems, so I dont know why I got that urge to have it done) and not wait another 2 more years. It came back abnormal. It showed where I had mild dysplasia. Scared the crap out of me. I had to go through a colposcopy and a biopsy. Waiting for that procedure date to come around felt like forever--it was about a month and a half away--then had to wait for the results. Luckily, they found nothing. So they are thinking that this was one of those "false" abnormal paps. But I have to go back in another 6 months for another pap. Will I put that off and postpone as long as I can???? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! It has already been scheduled for October 25th--and nothing--except if its that time of the month--will prevent me from going!

Re: To All The Ladies

My friend and i used to go for our smears together for support but then all of a sudden she stopped going. Her last smear showed abnormal cells. That was 3 years ago and she hasnt been back since and wont. I keep going regular for mine and have even had to have a colposcopy but all was fine.

My mam hadnt had a smear for years either then decided to go one afternoon. Her smear was normal but the internal showed her womb was bulky. She had cancer. It was caught in time and is now 100% clear.

Just goes to show how important these tests are.

Re: To All The Ladies

Just wanted to nod in agreement with you ladies, how lucky we are actually that the pap smear is available to us. The beauty of it is that it can pick up abnormal cells way before a full-blown malignancy develops.

There are three things that we can do for ourselves that are truly preventative to head off future catastrophe: regular pap smears, blood pressure checks and mammogram.
(And tell your men to get a prostate examination!)
