i got the feeling of "fishbone-stuck-in-throat"

hello everyone,

I wonder if this is the place to ask or other forums. i welcome advice from anyone who can help me out.

after one mth of this "fishbone-stuck-in-throat" feeling, i went to see a GP. here's wat i told her:

for about 1 mth, i had this feeling. in the morning upon waking up, it's not so bad. as time goes by, it gets worse. i had tot it was due to too much fried/spicy foods, which i cut down. i drank more plain water & started herbal teas ...

i tot i was better when the RHS of my throat no longer had this feeling, juz the LHS.... after a few weeks, still no better.

all this resulted in me drinking like a camel & going to the loo a couple of times in the nite!!

The lady GP examined me throat with a torch, listen to my tale & told me this: she could give me some lozenges but said tat to really find out, i had to have a blood test & also go to the ENT specialist!! she also say i could be having a "thyroid problem".

i said "i try the lozenges" first. for one thing, i m a mouse, scared of needles & blood. 2nd, it will cost me $$$$$$$$, which i dun have rite now, not tat $$$.

anyone else suffer from this & recover without blood test/ENT visit? or why i get this? is it diet? age?lifestyle like conch potato?

Thank you all very much.

A whlie back I had that same feeling of sorts. I recomend at least seeing an ENT, they will look in your throat to see what is going on. It's nothing to mess around with. It could be just Gerd. that is what I had. Good Luck.!

What KIND of feeling? Was it really sharp? I had that for a day and it went away. If it just feels like a lump or someone pressing on your throat or like a bunch of phlegm there, could be GERD or it could be Globus (spasm of the esophagus from anxiety or stress)

Re: i got the feeling of "fishbone-stuck-in-throat"

Hello,

The feeling i had in my throat was like having a bunch of rusty needles/fishbones stuck inside. U could also say it was like having many throat ulcers. It is a sharp, painful feeling ... the sort u wanna cry/punch/shout out.

The sharpness/pain comes when I drink water/herbal teas; eating isn't so bad. It feels so bad tat i was thinking: can't i juz put a water hose there to relieve the pain? (i know tat is a stupid idea ...)

BTW Jen, wat is "GERD"? i m going to find out online, along with "thyroid problem". I m scared at what i m going to find as answers.

Sun, u r also spot on in another area. currently, i feel total stressed out... funny u should guess correctly.

anyway, this is all for now. atm, i feel juz a wee bit better, due to sucking the lozenges that the doctor prescribed but the "fishbone stuck in throat" feeling still there.

Did you find anythig out? That sharp feeling is odd that it should last so long. When I had mine it was after eating salmon and I DID think I got a fishbone down there! But then it just went away - I ate salmon again months later and the same thing happened! Could it be an allergic reaction to something you continue to eat or drink?
Could there really BE a fishbone stuck there?

Re: i got the feeling of "fishbone-stuck-in-throat"

Hello Sunlover,

U know wat? I never tot of tat "fishbone stuck feeling" as an allergic reaction B4. I've not known tat i m allergic to anything (well ... mebbie vacuuming the floor counts?) still, i will slowly think out wat i can be allergic to.

I'm a bit angry with the counter staff @ my doctor's. U c, I'm feeling much better (NOT completely) now. the GP prescribed ONLY 2 days' of Difflam lozenges (grass-green colour) for me to suck 4x daily. Of course, they would run out quickly, so i skipped; i sucked only 3x daily. So naturally, I had to get some more so tat i can recover 100%. The counter staff turned me down!!! They said i had to see the GP again!!! wat arrogance!! they probably wanted to generate more biz; get me to see the doctor.

U wonder Y i mind so much. Well, I'm out of work atm, so i live off my savings for now. to see the GP JUZ to get those stupid lozenges would cost me another $20+. For those who wonder how come I can surf the net, well I need to do so to help find work.

on a scale of 1 to 10 of pain, 1 being the least & 10 the most painful, i m now at 5.5, down from 80.

tat is all for now, folks. thank u all.

Re: i got the feeling of "fishbone-stuck-in-throat"

Sorry to hear of your delemma...
I also had that feeling for awhile.
Thyroid was the culprit. At first they didn't find it but there is a secondary test that they are hesitant to do but if you ask they may go ahead.
I can't remember the name of the other test but if you just let them know you want the other thyroid test done also they (your doc) will know which one it is.
Good luck to you and drinking alcohol increases the feeling also...
Especially the morning after.
