I don't know for sure, but I was told it was how I was breathing.
Seems I hold my breath as long as I can when running instead of the steady in and out. I tried inhale, exhale to pace my breathing and it seemed to help.
Examine your running style, do you tend to not breathe evenly and deeply?
My pain was almost always in the right side, rib cage and all, felt sort of like stabbing pains.
Try the breathing and see if it helps.
