| Re: 4month old urinary tract infection
HI there.
My now 9 year old had a 'mystery illness' at 7 months and was classified as a 'flat baby' .. 10 days later, numerous blood tests and ultrasounds later .. they figured she had a UTI that had originated from Kidney reflux. The ultrasound showed her kidney (can't remember which one) the size of a peanut, with the other one quite healthy. They wanted a test done on her where she would have to be sedated, and they would IV her, with a special coloured solution and pump the fluids and make her wee to see how she voided.
On a 7 month old? I voiced my concern to our local GP who thought it was 'overkill' on the hospital .. and we agreed to avoid this invasiveness until she showed any other problems.
Well, other than the occasional UTI (2 since she was 7 months old) and ONE major infection (the 2nd UTI backed up into the kidneys) and that kidney was the size of a pea again .... we had an ultrasound on her AFTER the infection was cleared and the kidney had pinked up nicely.
So now we know that she has one 'weak' kidney, that may or may not see her throughout her life, we know we have to drink water (her LEAST favourite beverage) and so far .. so good.
It's not unheard of .. it's not unusual .. you know those odd little 'bugs' your baby get's and you can't quite put your finger on it? Pump water .. my GP says UTI's start out quite undistinguishable in the early stages and is usually the cause of lots of 'baby' off days.
goodluck!
