Is it bad to use baby oil when you're tanning on the beach?

Definitely......you should be using a tanning oil (if that's what you like) with an SPF of at least 15.

I'm sure you've heard that tanning can accellerate cancer cell activity.

Basically...oil helps "cook" the skin...and you will get tanned. We used to use it in the late 60's with iodine to get a darker tan...I'm surprised that baby oil is still in use. There is absolutely no UVA or UVB screen in baby oil.

I hope you reconsider tanning.

I'm starting to pay for my past sunning sins....haven't tanned in over 23 years! At that time, at least I could claim ignorance. Too much info since then about the dangers of tanning.

Anykind of oil especially baby oil is sooooo bad for your skin!

You can still get a nice tan with s reputable sunscreen. There are several out there to choose from. Personally I only use BullFrog Sunscreen. Even though it has an SPF 36, I still get tan, just don't burn. The UVA/UVB rays will damage your skin and can cause skin cancer. So, remember to protect your skin!!

Oil is not bad for your skin if you have really dry skin. I use different body oils because I do have dry skin. I use the spray on tanning oils at the beach and they are really great. Keeps my skin moist.

It's probably better to use just plain water - keep misting yourself. (I believe that slathering on a bunch of man made chemicals that absorb systemically into the body - i.e: sunscreeen, is a lot worse than what is nature (i.e: the sun) baby oil will make you burn and you may end up thinking you can stay out longer when in fact you have to stay out shorter. Unless of course you already have a base tan.
