Callus On Hands From Using Walker

I have painful, red, burning calluses on the palms of my hands from using a walker.

Should I wear gloves? When I no longer use the walker, will it take a long time for the calluses to go away?

Re: Callus On Hands From Using Walker

You should try and take the pressure off your hands to heal the calluses. Can you wrap a towel or wash cloth or maybe a piece of fluffy soft fabric or moleskin around the walker handle? Make sure you keep your hands moisturized because dryness can cause cracking and bleeding. Once you stop using the walker, you can treat the calluses by soaking your hands in some warm water and GENTLY rubbing them with some pumice stone for a couple minutes/day. I know some doctors recommend trying salicylic acid only on the callus itself not the surrounding skin. You rub it on with the pumice stone. It can soften the callus. Without treatment, I imagine it will always be there, I have one on my middle finger that's been there since I first started writing and haven't done any treatment on it. Good luck
