 strange swelling (infection?) on finger

I recently developed this strange swelling on my right ring finger. It is close to the nail (on the right side of it). It started yesterday just red and puffy. I assumed it was an ingrown fingernail, but it wasn't. I figured maybe I just bumped it or something. Anyway, today I noticed a whitish colored circle on the swollen area. I thought maybe it was a blister and tried to pop it to no success.
Anyway, after about an hour after trying to pop it, it started leaking out a yellowish colored puss, which was very thick and cloudy. I am concerned with this and need some advice. Please help!
