I have a cousin who is 25 years old and enjoys drinking on weekends. He rarely drinks anything but beer. I was with him when he was drinking vodka and his face, arms hands and feet broke out in hives. We think it is an allergy but we are trying to narrow it down. What is in vodka that isnt in beer and how serious is it? Should he stop drinking? Would an allergy shot help?

Hives are always a sign of a allergic reaction. Vodka has much much more alcohol in it then beer. If I where him I would be very carefull the reaction could be much worse if he consumes larger amounts of alcohol besides hives. Throat swelling resulting in being unable to breath.

Probabaly you ask first your cousin to stop drinking of vodka or beer so that you can see if she has an allergy on it.

Between the two.. Vodka VS Beer... There is Corn in Vodka when it is made.. and there is barley in Beer.... Yes.. there is a higher alcohol level in the vodka... I would strongly say that it would be the ingredients forsure... But... I am not a docotr.. Hives is huge sign of allergic reaction.. Does he pass out or become at all sleepy..? I would take him the a doctor.. and get him checked for allergies.. Perhaps he has no idea what it is bugging him...

My problem is that when I drink any kind of alcohol, after one sip my face becomes very red and feels like it is on fire.....anyone else have the same problem or know what it could be? I have tried different drinks, vodka, rum and bailey's, same reaction to all of them. Thanks for any info....
