Hi,

I'm 18 male and am having an issue with hairy tongue. I know all about it, how it is not harmful and that it effects very few people in this world. I don't smoke or use a mouthwash (some mouthwash's cause it). I brush my teeth twice a day with Arm & Hammer toothepaste and use a tongue scraper twice a day.

I have probably had this problem for 3 years (I believe that is when it first appeared). I have seen a doctor once, but he told me to talk to my dentist. So, when I had my dentist appointment, he told me he would ask a specialist if they could do anything about it, but from his attitude, I could tell he didn't take the situation that serious (and believe he didn't bother contacting the specialist), but nothing happened.

So, I will try to go to a general doctor and be very forceful for some form of treatment on this issue. I believe it is physical, seeing that I scrape it so much, but very little comes out of doing it (and yes, I scrape well, and have on occasions even done it more than twice a day).

In the end, do any of you all know any specific physical treatment that came be done surgically? Or any other solutions you know that will cure this "hairy tongue" issue for good (not about medicine though, its not a bacterial problem, its some physical issue)? Please, someone out there help me, this sucks, and I believe the thing only effects like less than 10% of the population in the world. Someone out there must know something.
