What you are describing sounds like neuropathy... I'm not a medical professional, but I have three friends who have problems with neuropathy and they describe it exactly the same way.
Most neuropathy is associated with diabetes, but not all of it is. Two of my friends with neuropathy are diabetic, but the third is not.
Obviously you need to get to a doctor to have it checked out. You can do some reading online by using neuropathy as a keyword -- just google it and you should be able to find plenty of information. You'll just want to do the background research so you know what questions to ask the doctor.
