had toenail partly removed and its still sore and seeing puss it normal?

The other day,I had to get some of my toenail removed after having an ingrown nail. The doctor told me after the novacaine wears off I would feel discomfort and told me to take advil. They also gave me triple antibiotic ointment to put on it.He cut the nail sideways.I noticed its still has a little puss though after I got out of the shower. Is this normal or should I call the doctor?
