enlarged carotid artery with Tinitus
I saw this posting from 4 years ago and have the exact same problem and symptoms. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do?
Near the end of August/2002 I had a throat infection where the gland on the right side of my neck swelled. After several days the gland went down, but not fully. I waited a few weeks, went to the doc and he felt the same lump in my neck. I was put on antibiotics in hopes the lump would go down. I was then referred to an ENT to have the lump evaluated. Her suspicions were that I had an enlarged carotid artery. I had a CT scan done and the results came back as "The right internal jugular vein is dominant and significantly larger than that of the left side". Now this vein was not enlarged 8 weeks ago. I read that sometimes if there is an aneursym in the artery it can cause it to enlarge. Which is really scaring me since I already have elevated B/p and I've had chronic pulsatile tinnitis (heartbeat sounds in the ear) for a long time now. My ENT doc thinks I shouldn't worry, but she asked that I come and see her next week to check the lump out again. Anyone have any knowledge of such things??? and should I be concerned??
