I've heard that it's bad to leave food too long in plastic containers because chemicals from the plastic will leach into the food. I've heard this also happens if you microwave food in plastic containers.
Does this also mean that if you swallow small bits of plastic, it'll leach harmful chemicals into your stomach? We inevitably swallow small shredded pieces of plastic when we drink from plastic bottles because of all the screwing and unscrewing of the cap. Is this just as bad as eating food with leached plastic chemicals in it?
Good question. As for screwing and unscrewing a cap i would think any plastic that would come off wouldn't fall into the drink. And i would think it would pass through you because it is not mixed with food. Such as when you heat up some food in a plastic dish, some of the chemicals in the plastic end up being combined with the food.
