Recently (starting probably a month ago or so) i have been more or less having constant canker sores inside my mouth right where my lips meet my gums in the front on the top and bottom (i also got one on my tongue on the underside). as you all know these are painful and annoying (i use oragel to soothe the pain temporarily) and they go away but why am i suddenly getting them so often having rarely gotten them in the past?
Ouch. I would definitely go to a specialist and have that checked out.
Could be lots of things, a nutritional deficiency for one.
Please don't let it go on any longer. It sounds like you will need help to figure out exactly what's going on. At least a dr could swab the ulcer and send it to a lab.
First I agree about having it checked out as to swab to have it checked out. I have for years been bothered with bad sores in my mouth. I have different things so drs. say that are the cause...have fibromyalgia, RA, and MAC. Take meds that can cause the sores. Once in Ohio dr. I saw gave me something but I don't remember what.Anyway happened to mention it once to rheumy dr. Had suffered long time, years with this. She wrote me out prescrip. for Magic Mouthwash. REALLY GREAT! See if your dr. can give you this. Also was told to try a product called orabase from Colgate. The mouthwash really helps. You just swish it and it helps to like numb your mouth and helps I guess to heal the sores. It is a special thing having to be compounded. That is to say not all pharmacies can fill it. My mail order place can and I wonder why I didn't get told about it before. Ask about this. I find it really great. Also I use Kanka and it helps I think. Hope you get some relief.
Toask, I found that stress caused canker sores for me. I put alum on my sores before I go to bed (the alum that people use to can pickles). A pharmacist gave me this tip. Sometimes you have to do it a few nights in a row before bed. This works really well for me. Also, I decreased my stress and I don't get them anymore.
also..one thing that can cause canker sores is an allergy to something. about 9 years ago, I tried tooth movement...where you wear a metal brace in your mouth at night to get your teeth to move. after a couple of weeks of wearing them, i started getting these painful canker sores all over my mouth. i didnt connect it. my mouth was so sore that i was not able to wear the piece until my mouth healed up. this went on for about 6 months....miserable 6 months!!! i aint talking 1 or 2 sores....im talking 5-6 at a time!!! i questioned my dentist about being allergic to the brace...and he thought i was crazy!! so, i proceeded trying to wear it. i finally got to the point to where i said forget it on the tooth movement cause i wasnt able to wear them long enough for any changes to occur. voila!!!! no more canker sores after i quit wearing them!! i told my dentist about it..and he still didnt think it was the brace...as "he had never heard of anyone being allergic to it". but as i told him...apparently i was allergic...because i didnt have the problem before i started wearing it, and i didnt have a problem after i quit wearing it!! so...that is something to consider if you try the things that others have recommended and still dont get relief.
I used to have constant canker sores in my mouth, too. I took some advise from a health food store worker and have seen great success. She recommended I try Vitamin super B complex. I take one a day and have eliminated the sores. If I forget to take it, the sores come right back. It is amazing.
