Bug Bite, Boil, Ulcer? Confused...

Earlier this week i noticed a bump right below my butt cheek, later in the week it grew very large- about the size of a half dollar. I showed a friend and they said it was most likely a boil, i just assumed it was a bug bite. It was large, swollen, hurt, and felt warm. A day or two ago it started draining/bleeding so i put peroxide on it and kept it covered with a bandaid... it leaks through and i get blood on my boxers. Today i just noticed what looked like a pretty decence size of fatty tissue, about the size of a q-tip head that came out of it... and there's a hole about the size of a q-tip head. the swelling has gone down a lot, but im a little worried about how deep/big the hole is. i stuck a q-tip with peroxide in it and it could almost go all the way in to where you couldnt see the cotton. does this sound like your typical boil symptoms? i couldnt find anything on ****** that suggested so...

any response is appreciated.

Re: Bug Bite, Boil, Ulcer? Confused...

That is a boil. Keep it clean, and express the pus by pressing down either side of it with flat hands (don't poke it with fingers). If it starts to swell up again, you may need to see the Dr and have it lanced, but it sounds as if it is draining well enough. Try to keep it open to air if you can, gauze rather than a bandaid. The germs (staph) that cause boils need to be exposed to oxygen. Once all the pus has drained, and there is blood or clear fluid, it should start to close from inside.

Thanks a lot Seraph! I'm not so worried anymore... It was kind of shocking seeing a hole in your skin. And i'll try to keep it exposed to air, but its kind of hard to not wear pants during the day lol.

Why, is it winter where you are? Just don't seal it under an airtight bandaid.
