Mild Chest Pain

I'm looking for some advice. Since Jan. this year I've been experience mild chest pain on the left side. I mostly feel it when I take a deep breath, or move a certain way (like raise my arm really high), but sometimes doing nothing I will feel it. Since May my appetite has changed and I have to force myself to eat. I was feeling really lousy and say my Dr. at that time. He attributed the pain and loss of appetite to either a medication I was on, stomach acid problem, or depression. I've been off all medication since May per my Dr. (which obviously hasn't helped). I'm a psychology minor and know about depression, so I KNOW I'm not depressed.

I occasionally get dizzy spells, sometimes I close my eyes and feel as if I'm on a roller coaster. Also, this morning after running my left eye was all flickering, and I could not see clearly out of it....really scared me. But it's back to normal now. Any help with what could be going on is REALLY appreciated!

Re: Mild Chest Pain

It is good that you are having it all checked out. It is probably not your heart because I have always heard that if the pain changes with breathing, movement, etc. it indicates that. It could be that the pain is worrying you and causing anxiety attacks? It could also be something like arthritis or bursitis.

Re: Mild Chest Pain

If i was your doctor i would do an chest x-ray, and if i found no problems with your lungs and the size of your heart, i would send you to get an echo of your heart. If your heart in enlarged it could cause the problems your are talking about, but i think there is more of a chance of it being your lung.

Do you smoke? do you have a job or had a job where you could have breathed bad stuff in?
Could it be your ribs or the mucles that are between your ribs, or can you tell it's internal?

If you have good health ins or can afford this i would push a NEW DOCTOR to get to the bottom of this. I belive a good doctor will rule stuff out first then guess what it is. Not guess and not do any tests, please see new doctor.

Re: Mild Chest Pain

Thanks for the replies......I don't smoke, and I don't have a job where I breathe in bad things. Maybe it's the muscles between my ribs...but I don't know.

I don't think it's anxiety because the pain isn't worrying me to that point. And I'm 20 so I doubt it's arthritis....but I'll look into bursitis.

Yeah, I agree I should see a new Dr. I'm not in a lot of pain but I just don't think it's normal to have this going on for 6 months....especially because heart problems run in our family.

Re: Mild Chest Pain

"heart problems run in our family" This would be the reason to check this out soon, I see no reason why a doctor wouldn't do the tests.

For me at least if it is pain that is around the rib- and not nothing internal when i put my hand there and rub in the area it hurts, i can tell i'm rubbing the part that is causeing the pain.
