Paralized Diaphragm - Open to All Other Health Topics Message Board

Hi,
The left side of my husband's diaphragm is paralized. He is considering having a surgical procedure called a diaphragm pliectomy. Has anyone had this surgery? If so, how did it go?

just a couple questions for you here so i can get a handle on just what this is from?what exactly caused this paralysis to begin with?has that issue been adressed?was this spinal cord or brain related or something else entirely?is the diaphram the only problem he is dealing with?any info would help me to help you. FB

Hi, thank you for your response. The doctors do not know the cause. They say the phrenic nerve is not activating the diaphragm and that he is now breathing at 70% capacity. They can do a surgery called a plication of the hemi diaphragm and that this will bring him to 82.5% breathing capacity. We would like to talk to someone who has had this surgery.

i can understand you wanting/needing to speak with someone who has had this done before.sorry i cannot actually help you there.i was just wondering what types of testing he has had done to try and determine the cause of this?just how did they arrive at 'this' particular Dx?this is just kind of an odd thing to just have occur out of the blue with no warning.any level of nerve loss within our bodies can usually be tracked back to a source,you know what i mean?just how did this partial loss of the diaphram actually 'present' itself?what occured that prompted him to seek attention that brought him to this being dxed in him?sorry if i am being too nosey,this just really seems like such an odd type of nerve loss with no etiology behind it. FB
