My wife has MDS since July of 2005. She was first diagnoised as anemmia. then she went to a Hemotologist and he said it was MDS. Her bone marrow was not producing her red and white blood cells nor her platelets. The drugs that M.D Anderson hospital wanted to give her had too many side effects. She opt. to have blood transfussions. In July of 2005, she could go only 4 weeks before her hemoglobin got so low and she needed another transfussion. When you have transfussion you get an iron overload. Her doctor did not check for the ferritin level until she was taking transfussion for over a year. If you have taken over 20 blood transfussions be sure to have a ferritin level done. About a year ago a friend of ours had cancer and he started taking "Immpower" a natural remedy in capsule form he found on the internet and it helped him boost his immune system. My wife started taking immpower about a year ago and april 11th 2008 was 6 months that she has not had a blood transfussion, praise God. She is taking Desferal shots now to remove the excessive iron overload. These are not exact levels but say the normal amout of iron is 200 her level is over 4,000. If anyone knows of other methods to treat MDS email us.........thanks
