My suggestion would be that you look under "seamtress" in the yellow pages.
Or ask at a dry cleaners if they know of some good tailors or seamtresses. Most have contacts that they use for repairs.
Another thought... many highschools have sewing classes. Perhaps the teacher there works on the side or even has students talented enough to alter patterns. I am friends with two Home Ec teachers and I know both would have gladly taken on such a project with students.
Friend, if we met in real life, I would buy you flowers for being such a caring person.
