Dull Ache Under Bottom Left Rib

I dont know if anyone can shed any light on my problem but here I go. I have this sort of dull ache under my bottom rib on left hand side. It does not give any great pain but I know its there and it doesnt feel right. It seems to be worse when I am sitting down. If I feel the area it can hurt a little but again not to any great extent.

Any help or ideas would be great.

How is your fiber intake? Read about diverticulosis. Thinking back, one of the symptoms I had (at the time, I didn't pay attention) was pain in the lower left rib cage.

Do you suffer with any digestive issues? Irritable bowel etc? This could be an area in the colon where there may be a collection of "matter", causing pain.

I have had the same pain as you describe. It kinda feels like a stitch in my side and it hurts worse when I am sitting down. I am scheduled to have my right ovary removed next week and I don't know if this is related to that or to the mass that is on my ovary even though it is on the opposite side. I have IBS.

Did you find out what was causing your pain?

It could be muscular from slouching when you sit. I get the same sort of thing if I slouch in the chair at night. It usually goes away after a few days if I make an effort to sit up straight.

I have the same problem. My doctor just said it was my bowels(i get IBS) but even when im going normally and my stools are soft, I get it. Im uncomfortable at night if I lie on either side, and I even dream about the discomfort that I am actually experiencing as I sleep. I went back to Drs and the Nurse Practitioner told me it was GORD, acid reflux for short, which I found hilarious as a nurse! When i press on the very lowest ribs round on my back/left side it is tender,.. a horrid yukky feeling if you know what I mean? I know there is a thing called Splenic Flexure Syndrome,.. i found that out myself,.. the crap doctor didnt tell me,.. he just said 'its your bowels' ,..and I spose its that,.. a collection of gas in the splenic flexure of the large bowel... BUT WHAT DO I DO ABOUT IT??????? someone PLEASE help??

Hi I have also got the same problem, after 12 months of different tests for different things, I recently had results for barium enema, which shows that I have whats called a loopy bowel, which makes me constipated and the stools are settling in my colon and are difficult to get rid of, the pain is awful, I have been told that I could have part of my bowel removed which may help the problem, as it is getting me down.

Re: Dull Ache Under Bottom Left Rib

hi everyone,am posting here as some of the symptoms you have talked about sound similar to me. ive had pain now for about 7wks and getting nowhere in finding out whats wrong. all started with low back ache which can ease one min than be agony the nxt, sharp pains in my left side and my left rib also aches. very constipated, having uncomfortable feelings pain around belly button and just above belly button, its an unbearable feeling, really deep strong pain, sometimes sharp and slightly crampy.
my kidneys and ovaries have been checked and are fine. does this sound like an intestine prob or diverticolosis. i really feel theres something wrong but doc say its just IBS and indegestion......as ive had chest pains too,and leg pain!! i know i sound like a hypochondriac but im sure the doc is way wrong!!! any ideas would be great thank you x

Re: Dull Ache Under Bottom Left Rib

I had the exact same thing, jellebeans.
I had a CT Scan to check my kidneys, intestines, etc, but nothing was found. Then I finally went to my regular doctor (I had seen a kidney specialist, and when he found nothing, he referred me back to my regular doctor), and as soon as I described my pain to him, he said, "Hold on, does this hurt?" and he poked me in a spot in my lower left rib area, and I almost shot through the roof. It turns out my floating rib on that side was broken. The only thing he could do was have me take anti-inflammatories for a month, which helped a little, but it still took months before it completely felt better. I still get an ache there if I sit certain ways, and it's been almost a year.

Re: Dull Ache Under Bottom Left Rib

Dear all

I have the same symptom,I have chronic discomfort around my left lower rib, the feeling is intermittent (come and go) for the last two years. Usually it would come at afternoon after I drove my motorbike or worked for long time with my laptop. The feeling is like a golf ball stuck around the lower left rib.

All of you will wonder if you know that hundreds of people have the same symptom. I have done search and reading with some health related board and still could not find the answer. First, I thought it was muscle problem since I did't have any problem with my bowel and also no other health problems. I can accept the condition since it became chronic but definitely I am also worried about more serious problem such as enlarged spleen or colon cancer.

I am interesting about splenic flexure syndrome that explained by bookworm58. Thank you bookworm58.

However, the only mismatch with splenic flexure syndrome is my discomfort doesn't have relation with stool and passing gas. It will not getting hurt or relieved with it. Still I am happy to have clue here.

regards
