Swollen soft palate

I came down with a cold yesterday, and during the night last night, my soft palate became very swollen. This has happened to me once before. It was woken up a few times last night while trying to swallow and feeling like something was stuck (blocking my breathing) and swallowing again on reflex. I also never snore, but I woke myself up a few times by snorting really loudly because of the swelling in the back of my soft palate. It's very uncomfortable, and Advil doesn't seem to be helping much (I took 2 almost two hours ago, and no improvement). Anyone know why this happens and how I can bring the swelling down?

Re: Swollen soft palate

Hi again, SentenceDoing . . . this happens when I have been in wind or if my uvula or palate become dried out (having a cold can do this).

I sip cold water or you can try sucking on ice chips to get the swelling down.

If anything swells to the point where you cannot swallow at all or have trouble breathing, get to the doctor. You may need antibiotics.

Let us know how you do!
