Go to a doctor?

Hi.

For the past few days I've been experiencing fatigue and many of the lymph nodes/glands in my neck have been painful and swollen. My throat has been sort of sore, but nothing real bad and I don't think I've had a fever yet. Like I said, the worst of it has been the soreness in my neck, the exhaustion and headaches.

Apart from that, I have been experiencing some pains in and around my ribcage, mostly right below them on either side as well as some pain in my back.

I know it's nothing extreme, but I just don't know if it's even worth going to the doctor or does it seem like something that will pass? It's just that I'm a junior in highschool and I'm going through all my final tests and being utterly exhausted is certainly not helping.

I've never had the flu or anything, so I don't know how long these symptons (feeling run-down and swollen glands etc.) will last before more symptoms develop because, like I said, for the past three days these have been my only symptoms. I've spent my entire weekend in bed.

Finally, I have been kind of achy all over. I know there are many lymph nodes
throughout the body and I'm quite certain the ones in my arm pits and genital area have been painful.

Again, does this sound like nothing or should I go to the doctor? Or does this sound like something that will go away soon or will it develop into something more?

Thanks

Re: Go to a doctor?

just to always err on the side of being safe than sorry. i really would just make that appt so your actual Dr can see and feel whats up with you right now. doing some bloodwork too would show whether or not your body is trying to fight off something by the way the levels of certain labs are. it could be some type of a virus which in most cases, do run their course, but having the enlarged lymph nodes too, well i personally, if this were me,would go and at least get this checked out to be sure ya know? hopefully this is nothing, but you do need the doc included in all this to let you know that for certain. just so you know, in case you don't already? when we are stressed out and chronically tired or are trying to do way too much, our immune systems do become a bit less effective. they just get stressed out too so it can make a person much more susceptable to just becomming sick much more easily. good luck and please let me know what you find out hon, FB

Re: Go to a doctor?

Hey thanks for the reply. I actually did go to the doctor today and his biggest concern was my lymph node on the left side right under my jaw because it's so large. He tested for strep and I was negative so he's just calling it a viral infection and gave me amoxicillin to take down the swelling.

I guess my neck is still the worst of it. I've got pains all over from the swollen nodes. Especially by my collar bones and at the base of my head. But I'll take the pills and do whatever. Just wish school was over.

Thanks again

Re: Go to a doctor?

Did the doctor test for Mononucleosis?

I had mono when I was 16 and had the same symptoms you described. During my first visit to the doctor I was tested for strep. The next day when the results were negative, they had me come back in and I tested positive for mono. Why they didn't do both tests on the same day I'll never understand.

My neck and throat were very swollen and sore. I missed 2 weeks of school, and for me to miss even one day, it had to be serious. I lost 15 lbs the first week! It took 7 months for me to feel back to normal, energy wise.

I know you need to study, but please take the time to get your rest and eat properly, regardless of which virus you have.

Re: Go to a doctor?

I was thinking about mono too, however, I don't have a sore throat or a fever. It's possible those will come later I guess but as of now I guess there wasn't reason enough to even check for it.

Stress is also a big factor. On top of going to a college prep school, my parents are going through a divorce and my mom has moved out so my responsibilities have doubled and I have a little sister and... yeah. Lot's of stress and I hate to say it but right now, I don't know what depression is but if it's worse than how I feel, then it must suck really bad.

Sorry, wrong thread but yeah, I guess stress could be making this worse too. I don't know really... Thanks for posting though.
