Question Is there something wrong or am I just being overdramatic?

I think there is something wrong with me. Hopefully not.

When I stand up, walk, or go up stairs I lose my vision, everything goes completely black. I feel my heart beating in my head and the back of my head where the spine connects pulses painfully as well. I start to sweat, and my heart rate goes through the roof. I feel nauseous and the room starts to spin. Most of the time I have to stop and lean against the wall so I dont fall or crash into something. In the past month it has also progressed to a point where i have lost most of my balance, making it difficult to walk straight. I've started crawling up the stairs, grabbing the walls so not to fall. Also during this i cant hear, not completely, but it's like someone covers my ears with their hands and everything is muffled.

I've passed out only twice in the past three months even though I have these "attacks" at least once a day.

After the "attack" I get really tired, sometimes falling asleep right after. I can sleep for hours but when I wake up the world is a blur. I can't think, everything I do becomes a challenge. Simple things like forming a sentence, or deciding where to go becomes challenging. I dont know what to do, or what I am doing and I cant keep up in conversations. This passes after a couple of hours, but during it I just lay down and stare at the wall.

At first I thought it was blood pressure or something to do with blood flow to my head, but my doctor said they were fine. Then I thought I was eating too much or too little suger but that was also incorrect. Last, I thought it was my birth control shot I take for my bad cramps, but my doctor also said no.

I have to figure out whats wrong without telling my parents. Only 16, we teenagers are known for being overdramatic and narcissistic. I've kept this a secret from them for almost four months now because at first I was not really bothered by it.

But now I need help. I don't know what this is, I don't know if Im being overdramatic, I don't know if somethings wrong with me, and I don't even know if i should tell my parents. But I do know one thing, It's suddenly getting worse; very, very quickly.

Have you talked to your doctor about it? What you are describing is definitely not normal and could be serious. It can also cause injury in other ways (e.g. you could fall down the stairs, or crash while driving a car).

Go to your doctor before you fall down the stairs and break your neck! It could be something as simple as you're not getting enough blood to your brain when you go up the stairs and you need something to keep your blood pressure up. Most of us have high blood pressure so no one talks about the opposite...low blood pressure. But what you describe is a near fainting spell and I bet it's from low BP.

Go see your doc.

good luck............Jenny

That's the problem! I can't just go up to my mom and go, "Hey you know what? I think there's something wrong with me." Even if i were to give her my symptoms, she will tell me to drink some orange juice and take a vitamin! Unless I'm bleeding from my ears and speaking latin she won't think anythings wrong!

When you mean not enough blood to my brain that could be it, but doesnt that mean I'm having a stroke!?!

For low blood pressure, what can I do without having to go to the doctor? Is there a pill i can take? And if islow BP is it as simple as going to the doctor and getting a perscription, how can I get my mom to take me?

It could be a recurrent sinus issue or seizures, but you'll have the get a head CAT scan for that. Or it could be a host of other things. No offense, but you need to build a better relationship with your mother. This is a potentially serious problem and if she is brushing it off, then you must have cried wolf a lot in the past. Go to her, tell her what is happening, if she ignores it, then go to a school nurse.

I don't mean to sound harsh but it's silly not to tell your parents of your symptoms. They are responsible for your well being and not taking you to a Doctor is neglectful. I have no idea what could be causing your symptoms but you need medical help sooner rather than later. Surely there is someone at your school or a relative you could talk to. Try your parents first though, they might surprise you.

I know. I told her about my symptoms today, and just like I said before she told me I was fine. I'm already out of school, and none of my relatives live close to me.

I made her take my blood surger with her diabetes meter, and it came up as 70. However, this was right after I ate dinner and drank two cups of coffee. Is that weird?

HAHAHA!!! You'r right, I used to cry wolf all the time through my childhood, looking for attention. Nothing I can do about it now though. I went to her today and told her, but she told me not to worry. I'm already out of school so that option is out.

Now the question is, should I keep telling her about it, or just deal with it and hope it goes away?

No you can't just wait and hope it goes away, it very well may go away but all the hoping in the world won't make it go away. Haven't your parents witnessed these turns ( for want of a better word)? I would just keep telling your Mum until she takes you seriously. Maybe explain that you know you've cried wolf in the past but this is for real. Can't you go to the Doctor by yourself? Sorry if I sound ignorant but our health system (Australia) is different to yours.

If your mom will not take you serious, please have her read your post and responses on this forum. It just might make her realize you do have a real problem.

If your blood sugar was tested within 2 hrs. after eating, then it was too low. You do not want the blood sugar to go lower than 70. Low blood sugar can cause some of your symptoms.

Thank's. My parents haven't witnessed it, because it happens randomly without pattern, after standing. It goes away after a few minutes, but durring that time i can't do anything. I don't want to bother my mom, but I can't drive.

Don't worry, you don't sound ignorant. Ignorant people don't help out total strangers.

I'd hate to say it, but if you're 18, then you should be able to do things on your own, if your not 18, call child service for neglectance of a potential serious issue, I know my mother would take me to a docter if I even thought I had issues. If your having to crawl up the stairs and keep falling down, call 911, they'll get you to a docter, and when they find the problem, your mom can pay for it.

I'm not 18, but calling child services is going way too far. Your mother isn't my mother, and im looking for an answer to my problems, not for people to look into my family!

I want people to help me find out what's wrong, not accuse my mother of child abuse. Your comment is way out of line.

Ignore posts you don't think apply. Do not attack those that take the time to post a reply. You asked for help and opinions, and the opinion is valid. There is nothing wrong with it.
...opps. I wont attack anyone anymore and I'll just ignore them. Sorry if I caused trouble.

Re: Is there something wrong or am I just being overdramatic?

I'm sorry but I don't think any of us here can help you. Obviously we can't diagnose you, you say you aren't able to get medical help by yourself. Your Mother won't help you, so I don't know what a whole lot of strangers are suppose to do. Sounds to me like we care more about you than your own family. I only hope your condition isn't life threatening and you are somehow able to get the help you need and deserve. i wish you well.
