Elbow problems :(

Hello,

For about 2 month now my left elbow and hand (pinky and ring finger) have been getting tingling and feeling worn out. My fingers usually tingle, while my elbow feels tingly and warn out (almost like my funny bone has been hit, but it has not). After I played a video game (which I almost never do) my elbow and arm, hand, hurt for the rest of the night. I write with my opposite hand too.. So I scheduled a doctors appointment coming up soon...

Just today my right elbow started to hurt!!! A different kind of pain then my left elbow, I was driving back from lunch and it randomly started, it is painful and comes and goes, the pain waxes and waynes, it is not painful to the touch and doesnt look red/swollen..and it doesnt feel like the pain I'm experiencing on my left elbow.. I dont play sports, I havent been in any accidents, I am on the computer almost 24/7 with my job. I did notice with my right elbow the pain seemed to go up into my back too...

Does anyone have any ideas?! I am a young female and I dont understand what is going on!!

Re: Elbow problems :(

sorry i did not see this til today. this IS involving your ulnar nerve. this is also called the c 8 nerve up in the c spine area. its the very last nerve in that c spine. it does not have its own vertebrae, but it does have that nerve. before you started talking about the opposite hand being affected, i kind of thought you had some level of actual compression withing the ulnar crease right in that elbow where that particular nerve just passes theu on its way down to the hand. but in light of the more bilateral type symptoms you are having now, this really does need to have an MRI done at the c spine level and upper T(this just naturally gets included when the c spine gets done) to see where this nerve may be more "centrally affected". when you have bilateral symptoms in both sides, it is usually more than likely that whatever is actually causeing it would be much more likely to be a central herniation or even a bone spur that is more in the 'middle" so it just would affect both sides vs one side?

you could still have some level of problem within that crease area and still could also have that c spine level of affectation too. anything IS just possible when it comes to the human body, trust me on that one. the ulnar nerve innervates the sensory of the last two fingers so it would correlate with your more prominent symptoms. the fact you are also now having upper back(any neck?)pain really does up the need to have that MRI done at this point just to really 'see' what may be affecting that c 8 nerve up there.

"something' does appear to be affecting nerve from what would appear to be stemming from that c spine area in your neck. getting that MRI done(preferrably WITH a contrasting agent) would just allow that look inside to see what is actually there that could simply affect nerves. once you get that part done, it would kind of dictate any other steps that should be taken. you can also get what is called an EMG/NCV test done which would show more directly just where the actual nerves are being compromised. this would help to narrow down compression or impingement only that could be pretty much anywhere along that arm and on up to that c spine area. i would only have this test done if the MRI does not show anything. but given your symptoms being on both sides now, i am willing to bet there is something affecting that c 8/ulnar up there to some degree.

i would just simply see your own primary for a neuro eval done there and then he can do the referral to get that MRI done as well. depending upon e what gets found, well that would just show whats going on and the best steps to take from there. it could be PT or an eval/consult with like a neurosurgeon just to fully explore all your options of treatment possibilities. but i would make that appt as soon as possible just to get that ball rolling towards finding out whats going on and where. good luck to you and please keep me posted as to what you find out, K?
