constant chest discomfort all day long for 8 weeks and counting

Hi everyone I am new here and very depressed! Three months ago I was perfectly healthy with no issues except for anxiety. During the end of Novemeber I started having what I describe as a vague chest discomfort. It sometimes reminds me of perhaps a huge bubble stuck under the chest. I am so sick of this nonstop 24/7 discomfort. I as well have been told it is conscondritis(sp) However have been wearing a cardiac event monitor due to a minor abnormality the showed up in 1 out of 5 ekg's. so far all is normal on the cardiac event reports. I also had blood work done which has come out fine. I have two young amazing children and have found myself crying at the thought something else is wrong here. I need to stress this is not a come and go feeling it is all day for 2 months does anyone have any thoughts on what this is....

What are you taking for the costochondritis? It really needs to be treated, especially with two small kids, you'll be aggravating it all day. (with treatment, costo usually goes away within a week)

Do you have any stomach problems, heartburn?

I wasnt prescribed anything for the costochondritis. I do at times get some reflux but not too often.

I also have coschondritis. It started out feeling like a bubble, but would either be in my upper right chest around my side, or in my shoulder blade. I ended up in the ER one night with bad pains that came on in my right rib cage when I bent over or breathed in deep. What was weird was there were 3 other people in there at the same time with the exact same problem! And i live in a small town. I do not know where you live but mine came on when the weather got bitter cold, and snowed alot, and I had shoveled my walkway. They asked me if I had shoveled at all. The treatment for this was heat packs, I lay in the tub as long as I can, and ibuprofen. I read up on it and it said it can last awhile. My severe symptoms are gone, only a little pain here and there now. You are supposed to take it easy, nothing strenuous, heat packs and ibuprofen. About the heart monitor, I also wore one home for a few days. I had what I thought were heart problems, pains that shot across my chest, and after seeing docs and getting checked, and wearing a monitor home, found out it was an ulcer, ( I forgot about my stomache symptoms once the pains came on ). Since nothing has shown up, you may be just scared, like I was, I know what goes through a persons mind when we think there is something wrong with our heart, our children. I had one episode of a fast heart rate in 2 days, but it was when I had one of the what I thought were chest pains, so I was scared, which made my heart rate go up, they couldnt find anything wrong there. I do have an ulcer, and I do have the coschondritis. Did the docs give you any instructions on what to do for it or tell you what it is caused from? It is an inflammation of the lining of the ribcage and they claim they dont know what its caused from, but with 4 people in the ER on the exact same night when it had snowed the day before tells me its probably a combination of shoveling, and the bitter cold air. You need to do all you can to not aggravate it, which is hard I know with little children, no lifting, nothing strenuous, and try to lay down with either heat pad or lay in the tub as long as you can to relax those muscles and take some ibuprofen if you can. I hope some of this helps you.

Re: constant chest discomfort all day long for 8 weeks and counting

Thank you! I am really trying to hang in there but now I am walking around with this monitor and thinking the worst. I am trying to take it easier. Honestly this seemed to happen after a bad chest cold. I never experienced anything like it. It happened November starting to get cold but not bad. It seems like I just woke up one day this way I really don't recall a moment when I "hurt" myself....Not sure if that makes sense. I find myself praying at night all will be ok. I have scared the you know what out of myself which is probably why I am having palpitations....I am a smoker too (NEED TO STOP) I appreciate your help and any more info would be appreciated.

Re: constant chest discomfort all day long for 8 weeks and counting

Oh my gosh, I completely forgot to tell you my coschondritis came on after I had an upper respiratory virus! When I would lay down at night on my side, it felt like my ribs were in the way on that side, and too big, it was uncomfortable, and I would have to change positions alot, then when I went to doc for what I thought was my heart, she found tender areas in my rib cage when pressed, which I thought was weird, then a few months later is when I got the pains, right when it snowed and got about 20 below 0. I read it can last up to a year, it seemed to be coming on for months before I got the pains. I really don't think stress plays a huge factor in coschondritis, I think docs say that about many ailments when they don't know the cause, but I am positive the weather and strenuous activity does though, how else could 4 people in up in the ER at the same time???? That is not a coincidence. Many people here had been shoveling, and the weather turned bitter cold. Yours came on around the same time too! I had been having symptoms of it coming on for months, but didnt realize it, and winter was coming or either here already when my symptoms started. And the heart monitor, I was having tons of palpitations, it scared the heck out of me, and the one incidence of a fast heart rate, then the chest pains, I had all of this before the coschondritis. I just had a run of ailments in a row, fun fun fun!! First the virus, then stomache problems which I ignored, then chest pains, which in the end after EKG's, wearing monitor home, ended up being an ulcer, then arthritis in my thumb that comes on bad according to the weather, my neck is same according to the weather, then the coschondritis. I am positive the weather and your activites play a huge factor in the coschondritis. Please let me know how you are doing.

Re: constant chest discomfort all day long for 8 weeks and counting

hi there, do not give up and do not get stressed. This will make you feel even more unwell and will affect your children too. So try to stay calm and listen to what the Dr's say and just take it easy. Try to drink lots of water and please calm down and life will be easier. Take care

Re: constant chest discomfort all day long for 8 weeks and counting

I have been diagnosed with costochondritis by my gyno and pcp. the pain started in January and continues now. Sometimes it fluctuates from side to side. Sometimes it feels worse and other times it is ok.I was given 600 milligrams of ibuprofen and it does nothing. I haven't had a chest xray or any other tests. Have had a breast exam (nothing) and a test where my doc pressed on rib cage and I almost threw up in pain. In January, I had a vrius and sinus infection/bad cold... tomorrow i am going to another doctor for yet a third opinion. I have two small children and can't always avoid picking them up. this is so annoying and worrisome (also have anxiety which I have read can make this worse.) Interested in hearing what treatments helped.
