How long for chalazion (lump on eyelid) to go away on own?

I went to see my doctor today and she refused to surgically remove it for me for another 3 weeks. I've had this chalazion for about 4 days now. It is pea-sized, hard, and not painful at all. But I have exams and prom coming up in 2 weeks and I would really like it gone. I'm using hot compresses, antibiotic cream and prescribed eye drops. If it goes away on its own how long might it take?

Has anyone else had one? How long did it take?

Thanks!
