If our parents are not very social people, we may not have learned how to interact with people very well.
My first suggestion would be some kind of group therapy as a safe place to learn about interacting with others; where you could get feedback on how other people view you. But it can be a little pricey on a regular basis, though there are low-cost or even free options in many areas. It can also carry a stigma. Some silly people still believe that going to a counselor or to therapy means one is "mentally ill" which is not the case, and it is not what I am implying here.
If you are, or might become, involved with a religious organization or something along those lines, this might be another alternative. There might be some sorts of groups, perhaps even some volunteer ventures, where you would feel safer to deal with people.
If you still in school maybe a guidance counselor might know what is available in your area. Or there may be a United Way or some social services organization who might have some ideas.
