large navicular bone pain
My son is 14 yrs old. He was diagnosed with large navicular bones in both feet. They r large enough that they have shifted the other bones in his feet. It started out with foot pain and has now progressed to his ankles. It now causes severe pain in both ankles, bad enough that he will literally crawl on the floor rather than walk. We went to a pediatric ortho and she put him in custom orthotics and he did get better for a while. the pain has returned.... about a month ago he started limping. any time he plays or does any type of activity he pays for it that night and next couple of days. this weekend has been bad, he was literally crying in pain and asking me to take him back to the specialist. he said "I wish they could just fix them". He has had to quit football and will very seldom go to his friends house to play because he knows he will pay for it later. It breaks my heart to watch this one active and happy boy turn slowly into an "old man". I feel completely helpless. I have done some research and found out that there is a surgical proceedure to remove the navicular bone.. My son wants this done. I dont know. we have an appt with the specialist on the 22nd. I want to mention it to her.. I dont want her to blow me off because I researched the web, and i dont want her to think that i want to rush into anything, but I also feel very strongly that we HAVE to do something. I refuse to believe that this is something he will just have to "deal with". I cant sit and watch my son suffer any more.
