My last 3 blood tests have shown high white blood cell counts of 11, 12, and 15.
I also have had consistent diarhea for the last 2 years with 5 episodes of
a tiny amount of blood in my stool.
I am going for a colonoscopy next week.
My regular doctor has sent me to an oncologist to have my blood further
tested for the wbc. I told him I am currently taking antibiotics for a urinary
tract infection. I also had one 2 months ago.
He wants me to finish taking the medicine and then come back in 3 weeks
to have my blood tested again. If he finds the wbc count to be high, he
suggested maybe doing a bone marrow biopsy.
He is also sending my blood out to be further tested to see if anything else
I don't know if she did for the first one, but I know it is being done for the newest.
I am so eager to get this colonoscopy done and out of the way. I'm tired of dreading the coming day of preparation...lol
Well my colonoscopy was done this morning. That medicine they give you is great. I wish I could have brought some home. I remember them putting it into the IV and me asking if that was the "good stuff". The room and people started spinning a bit and that is the last I remember till I woke up in recovery....LOL
My doctor told me I had one polyp and she took some of it to be biopsied. I also have some diverticulitis, and parts of my colon were red and inflamed a bit.
The day of prep was the worst part of it all. I did ok with drinking liquids all day and never felt too hungry. The go-lightly was pretty gross. I drank the first 5 glasses ok but had trouble with the 6th and 7th. Threw up some, felt nauseous. I couldn't drink anymore after that. Luckily it was enough to clean me out.
I am glad that you weather the colonoscopy storm. The drugs they give you are the best, I had an endoscopy just a couple of weeks ago and remember seeing the drugs going in and next thing I know they were sitting me up and handing me my clothes.
Having diverticulitis and red and inflammed colon could be the reason for the high white count. Did this doctor give you any instructions as to whether to continue with your present antibodic therapy or if she/he wished to change the medication?
Did the doctor also instruct you to call in a weeks time for the biopsy result?
good news. I saw my blood doctor this morning and he tested my wbc count. It has gone back down closer to normal. Unfortunately I also have yet another urinary tract infection and am back on antibiotics. This is now my 3rd time since May having tested positive for one. I just can't seem to get rid of these things.
I did get the results from my colonoscopy and biopsy. Everything came back clean and normal. She told me that I should get another colonoscopy in 5 years.
